Chinese electric vehicle maker Wuling is reaping what it sowed almost eight years ago in Indonesia — the largest and most lucrative auto market in Southeast Asia. After injecting a billion U.S. dollar investment over that period, Wuling has now sold over 10,000 Air EVs and controlled nearly 70% of Indonesia’s electric car market as of last year.
“Indonesia benefits from the fact that EV technologies have matured, so all we need to do is adapt,” Dian Asmahani, marketing director at Wuling Motors Indonesia, told CGSP this week. Government regulation such as stimulus and tax incentives in the past three years have also accelerated penetration, she added.
